As of today, we have met This American Life's Matching Challenge. With their $10,000 gift added to the campaign, we're now less than $5,000 away from reaching our $50,000 goal!

07/09/2024 Update: $10K Matching Challenge

Thanks to the generosity of over 150 donors to this campaign, we are more than halfway to our goal of raising $50K toward relaunching the independent Third Coast Competition! Now, our colleagues at This American Life have offered to match every single new donation made to the campaign in July up to $10,000.

This means that every time you donate to the We Need Third Coast Campaign, that donation is effectively doubled: If you give $50, that becomes $100; if you give $500, that turns into $1,000 toward relaunching the independent Third Coast Competition. The Matching Challenge counter started at $25,000; every donation made until $35,000 will be matched 1:1 by This American Life.

It’s a challenging time in the audio industry, and a challenging time in our world.But global audio communities are still craving the things that nourish us most…

Over the past few years, Third Coast has weathered a number of its own challenges. Now, we’re facing our most significant challenge to-date: the biggest financial supporter of Third Coast's audio competition ended its funding after 23 years.

That's why we’re launching #WeNeedThirdCoast, a campaign to raise $50,000 by July 2024 & to re-launch the Third Coast Call for Entries & Competition. This is just the start of our major fundraising campaign to increase community and institutional investment in Third Coast's new independent era.

At Third Coast, we believe that it's critical to uplift powerful, experimental, and disruptive voices in the field. That's why the Third Coast Competition offers more than any other awards program in the industry, including:

  • Celebrating 11 Award-Winners and over 40 Finalists at the culmination of each competition cycle
  • Welcoming submissions in all languages from across the world to our 11 categories (last year, we received entries from 42 unique countries in over 30 languages!)
  • Building a Collective Pricing Model that centers makers’ access to financial resources in all of our pricing, has kept our entry fees the same or lower since the onset of the pandemic, and means that we never turn anyone away for lack of ability to pay
  • Hosting a virtual Final Round Judging program that convenes outstanding audio makers for deep listening, rich conversation, and professional development
  • Working with a dynamic Third Coast Listening Team that listens to and considers every single entry that we receive
  • Creating Pilot Offerings like the Best New Artist Feedback Initiative, aiming to provide more field building opportunities for entrants, regardless of the outcome of their entry, and
  • Featuring countless audio makers through digital showcases, public programs, and live listening reels whose voices are historically underrepresented in the audio industry, and whose testimonials we'll be sharing with you throughout the campaign.

For over 20 years, Third Coast's Competition & Call for Entries has shone a light on some of the most urgent and inspiring work being made in narrative audio.
